ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Sharifa

WHERE I COME FROM

I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and immigrated to the United States nearly 30 years ago. I am the youngest of five children. Much of our childhood was spent growing up in the shadow of war, hearing the bombs and seeing the violence caused by the fighting militias. Today, I am a proud American.

CAREER

I am a dentist by trade. After settling in Nevada I became a single mother to three children and a caregiver to aging relatives. Times were hard. It was during that time that I realized how difficult it is for seniors to receive appropriate personal and health care. That motivated me to start my both a senior care business and a non-profit organization, so that I could provide advocacy and support systems to better meet their needs.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

My parents taught me the the importance - and the value of - community service. Those lessons have never left me. I have spent my life trying to help where help was needed. I am active in numerous Southern Nevada organizations that provide services for those in need. I have also been appointed to  numerous local and statewide boards and commissions, working to create helpful policy, outreach, and advocacy where necessary.

My father was a community servant. Watching him and accompanying him on his various activities allowed me to see the positive effects of public policy on a local community from up close and personal. It became my life's work to give back.

WHY I'M RUNNING

Challenge Meets Opportunity

I have spent a great deal of time working in the community and have heard a lot of concerns from District 35 residents. I believe there is more work to be done to ensure that our students receive the education they deserve, our seniors receive the care they deserve, and all of us deserve a community where we feel safe.

I manage the budgets for my household and my businesses, so I understand the challenges we all face trying to keep food on the table and jobs that provide both a living wage and safe working conditions. But I am a hard worker with a can-do spirit.

Let's get to work.
